Poetry and Prose in Chichester

This month’s Open Mic Poetry event is on 29th June at Jubilee Hall, New Park Centre, Chichester, where lead poet Richard Davies will read from his new collection The Arrogance of Dreams. As always, there will be plenty of time for audience members to read their own poetry.

Also, as part of Festival of Chichester which starts next week, there will be a number of literary events going on in the local area during June and July that celebrate both poetry and prose.

The ever popular Poetry and Jazz Café, with former Poet Laureate Sir Andrew Motion, on 26th June, has already sold out and promises to be a fantastic event. Chichester Copywriter attended this event last year and was very pleased to have her poem published in their annual publication.

On 16th June, Bright Star, including readings from actress of stage and screen Diana Quick (Brideshead Revisted) and Jotham Annan (Holby City, Branagh’s film As You Like It, Trevor Nunn’s Hamlet), will take place at The Vickers Hall, Chichester. The thespians will read poetry from John Keats in the very building which inspired the Eve of St Agnes. They will also read excerpts from Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, in the 200th anniversary year of its publication.

Three acclaimed Sussex authors – Isabel Ashdown, Gabrielle Kimm and Jane Rusbridge – will provide a lively afternoon of Pimm’s and Prose at Amelie and Friends, North Street, Chichester, on 28th June. The local novelists will discuss their writing themes and inspirations in a tranquil setting.

Then, on 11th July, Jane Rusbridge will be joined by poet Stephanie Norgate at Waterstones, West Street, Chichester, for Poetry and Prose. Here, they will give readings and celebrate the paperback launch of Jane’s Rook, a Guardian Readers’ Book of the Year.
