NaNoWriMo is a kind of acronym type thing for National Novel Writing Month, running throughout November, the time in which it’s every aspiring novelist’s challenge to write a 175 page/50,000 word novel, from start to finish.
There are loads of budding creative writers out there who are itching to write a novel but just need the motivation and a bit of good old fashioned encouragement. What’s better than having the encouragement that 100s of other writers are writing frantically at the same time? You can even meet up to swap notes or just indulge in tea and sympathy with your fellow novelists, which should be enough to egg anyone on and get the creative juices flowing.
Writing 50,000 words sounds like a lot to manage admittedly, even if you’re a professional copywriter like Kate, but NaNoWriMo is all about quantity over quality. The writing program encourages writers to free their minds and just get writing, without obsessing over errors and edits.
Last year NaNoWriMo attracted over 165,000 participants, more than 30,000 of which completed the challenge. Anyone can take part and become a novelist in just one month, just sign up anytime to add your name to the roster. To be added to the official list of winners, simply reach the 50,000-word mark by midnight on 30th November. Find out more at: http://www.nanowrimo.org/.
Chichester Copywriter has been thinking about starting a novel for a few weeks now and this seems like the perfect excuse to have a crack. The prospect of 50,000 words is a little daunting when writing a novel must fit around professional copywriting but Kate’s willing to give it her best and will let you know whether she makes it to the finish line. Watch this space…
