Karen Stevens, a senior lecturer at the university and children’s writing expert, will head up the judging panel.

This is the third year of Worthing WOW the literary strand of which is funded by Arts Council England and University of Chichester. The festival runs 28 May to 12 June 2016 and is packed full with film events, spoken word performances, writing workshops, author authors and more.

Writing For Children is the first competition the team has run related to Young Adult fiction – an ever increasing market that is read just as widely by adults as it is children with the 2015 Costa book of the Year award going to Frances Hardinge, the first time since 2001 a children’s book has won the coveted prize.

Artistic Director of the WOW festival, Melody Bridges said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone who has a great unique story in them to test their work, to get it out there and have it read and appreciated by an experienced panel of experts.

So, if you fancy yourself the next Frances Hardinge, JK Rowling or Phillip Pullman, and you have an original exciting story in you for the 8-16-year-old market, get writing and enter this competition. You could be a prize winner!

Entry for the competition is free (only one entry per person). Stories should be no more than 1500 words and the winner will be announced in June during the WOW festival. The winner will have their story published on the Worthing WOW page of The Worthing Herald and on the Worthing WOW website. They will also walk away with £100!
