Kate’s favourite gift this Christmas was a beautiful matryoshka doll that was quite aptly described by her partner Pete as a story within a story.
A matryoshka doll, or babushka doll is a Russian nesting doll comprising a set of dolls of decreasing sizes placed one inside the other. The first Russian nested doll set was carved in 1890 and 10 years later the dolls were presented at the World Exhibition in Paris, where they earned a bronze medal. Soon after, matryoshka dolls were being made throughout Russia and are now treasured collectors’ items all over the world.
Strictly speaking, the matryoshka doll should be described as a story within a story within a story within a story within a story but a mere hint at this lovely analogy got our West Sussex copywriter’s creative writing juices flowing nonetheless.
The metaphor of the matryoshka doll is not only a fabulous concept for a short story or piece of poetry but it also applies to marketing strategies. Just think about your most recent marketing campaign, whether it was an email newsletter, a direct mail out, a press release or a print ad in the local newspaper, these are all stories within stories within the context of your brand. Each piece of marketing communication is a layer representing your business that when pieced together in the form of a marketing strategy creates the bigger picture of your products or services.
Essentially, marketing is storytelling to the masses and that’s why copywriters such as Chichester Copywriter are such an important part of the process. The stories that copywriters weave should always represent your brand, should be specifically crafted to appeal to your target consumer and should persuade that consumer to buy.
