Lorrie Whittington’s beautiful collection of paintings and illustrations, inspired by the sea and the flora and fauna contained within, is being exhibited at Oxmarket Centre of Arts, Chichester, from 13th– 25th June.
Chichester Copywriter’s Katy, inspired by Lorrie’s vibrant palette of green to purple hues and the way the textures and patterns bring the work to life, wrote an ode to the collection. You can read the poem below and you’ll also find this sample of Katy’s creative writing featured in the programme for the exhibition, available from the Oxmarket:
Against the Tide
She’s against the tide, against the tide again, wondering which way to turn.
Rolling waves crash against unsteady legs, but still she stands.
Pebbles protrude from the sand, obstacles in her wake, but still she walks.
Caustic spray leaps at her eyes, but still she sees.
Lingering, gnarly tentacles grasp and cajole, dragging her in and under.
Kelpish tendrils entangle her, dragging her down.
Through hazy waters colour and texture starts to become lucid;
Cerulean to azure, turquoise to ultra marine and down, down, into the blue.
Enraptured by bubbles, ripples, ridges and grooves,
She lets them swarm around her, hooking her towards a vibrant depth.
Please go and visit this gorgeous collection, you won’t be disappointed. You’ll also find Lorrie’s work on display at Chichester Copywriter’s Writers’ Retreat. Find out more about the talented Lorrie Whittington and her exhibitions here.
