As well as being a writer and a psychology teacher, Melanie runs The Forge Gallery, Walberton, with her partner Mike, where they exhibit art from the Chichester area. Melanie has enjoyed writing all her life, but became seriously involved on joining Wey Poets in Guildford, chairing this group for some years before moving to West Sussex.
Melanie has two poetry collections to date: Breaking the Arch, Guildford Poets Press, 1995 and Feeding Humming Birds, Oversteps Books, 2009. Melanie achieved an MA in Creative Writing at the University of Chichester, where she wrote many of her poems for her most recent collection.
She enjoys giving readings, attending poetry events, and sending work off for publication. Melanie will be giving a reading at Chichester Copywriter’s Writers’ Retreat.
Sea-inspired Poetry Reading and Writer Talk with Melanie Penycate
On Sunday 28th August, 2011, Melanie will read poems from her collections that are inspired by the sea and its inhabitants. One such treat will be the tale of a struggling mermaid, told through poetic verse and accompanied by beautiful images to really stimulate your imagination. This will make for a wonderful creative experience before the writers are given some more writing free time and then a sumptuous cream tea to finish off the weekend.
Contact Katy@ChichesterCopywriter.co.uk to book your place on Chichester Copywriter’s Writers’ Retreat. Weekend tickets, including log cabin accommodation, delicious food, writing workshops, Melanie’s poetry reading and outdoor activities start from £200. Tickets for Friday evening’s networking, book signing and art exhibition are just £15.
