18th January was the day that the creator of this fabulous book, and the fabulous little world inside Hundred Acre Wood, was born in 1882 so Chichester Copywriter couldn’t pass up the opportunity to say “Happy Birthday, AA Milne” and “Happy Winnie-the-Pooh Day, one and all!”
It’s also worth mentioning that while Alan Alexander Milne lived nearby in East Sussex for much of life, E H Shepard, who brought us the beautiful illustrations of Pooh Bear, Eeyore, Piglet, Tigger and friends lived in Lodsworth, West Sussex, close to Chichester. It’s sometimes a very small world where literature is concerned!
How about some of Pooh’s words of wisdom to brighten up your day?
“It is more fun to talk with someone who doesn’t use long, difficult words but rather short, easy words like “What about lunch?””
“You can’t stay in your corner of the Forest waiting for others to come to you. You have to go to them sometimes.”
“If you live to be 100, I hope I live to be 100 minus 1 day, so I never have to live without you.”
Here are some photos showing when our favourite professional copywriter paid homage to her favourite children’s stories by visiting Pooh Corner and Ashdown Forest:
